Mitsubishi Electric has long been a pioneer in the air conditioning industry and as energy use within our built environment comes under the legislative and environmental microscope, the company has developed a 10-point sustainability plan which points the way to a reduction of more than 3 million tones of CO2 per year by 2016 – that’s the equivalent of removing 830,000 cars from the UK’s roads.

Called the Green Gateway Initiative™ the plan is a genuine attempt to challenge conventional thinking on the subject of energy use in our buildings and highlights the benefits of reduced energy use – for the environment and for the individual user.

Using its unique position as one of the largest suppliers of heating and cooling equipment, Mitsubishi Electric is using the Green Gateway Initiative to try and positively influence people’s behaviour and get them to examine how they heat and cool their buildings, both in the commercial and residential sectors.

The initiative is starting to make a real difference and is allowing Mitsubishi Electric to move beyond its pigeonhole as an ‘air conditioning manufacturer’ and focus people’s attention on the real issues of how we provide comfort in our buildings in the most sustainable ways possible.

Hoval manufactures a wide range of heating equipment, bringing together renewable energy sources such as biomass boilers, solar heating and heat pumps with ultra-efficient gas and oil fired boilers. The company also offers its own control systems to ensure that all of these technologies can be made to work in harmony and deliver maximum benefits.

The products themselves are backed by extensive experience in integrating these technologies to achieve the maximum energy savings and reductions in carbon emissions. Hoval also offers comprehensive maintenance packages to ensure the products continue to provide optimum performance throughout their life.

Established since 1897, the company has supplied boilers and other heating products to buildings as diverse as Buckingham Palace, the Millennium Stadium, Stoke Mandeville Hospital, the Bank of England, the Emirates Stadium, the Swiss Re Tower and many more.

Hoval’s wood pellet-burning biomass boilers are increasingly popular as a carbon-neutral alternative to fossil fuels, as evidenced in properties as diverse as schools in Nottinghamshire, Northumberland and Wales, the Share Village outdoor pursuits centre and funeral directors S Clarke & Son.
